Factions: Skills from quests anymore?
In Factions:
Do you get skills from quests anymore? Or do you have to buy each one now? |

I am afraid (apart from the few you get on the island at the beginning) you have to buy them.
We got some pretty spurious reason about avoiding cookie-cutter builds, I would have thought it would promote them myself. |

Note that experience points are easier to come by, most missions in factions are 2000-5000 XP, instead of 250-1000.
Note many missions reward you with gold, they never did in Prophecies. Note many missions reward you with skill points, and co-ops offer up to 3, when before you only got skill points for leveling and the 25 co-ops. Missions in factions offset the not offering skills in missions, by making it a lot easier to buy skills. |

Some people never get it into their head that running is a service mainly used by people who have played the game through before and don't wish to repeat it for every new char. Nothing wrong with that. I'm sure ANet have previously said there's nothing wrong with running (even though it will be less direct in Factions, give it time...people will still take shorter routes to develop chars).

The skill points aren't the issue the money is, when you're trying to unlock everything that money just builds up. Instead of getting skills we get these useless credits, oh yay if I get like 90 of them I can get an iron ingot, there is honestly no point in doing quests once you've hit level 20, you get lots of skill points from the missions anyway.
Also, what the hell is wrong with the henchmen AI? Or lack of.... The henchmen that can res seem to refuse to res unless they're in combat. It's like ANet programmed them to suck. I was doing that star mission thing and I was at the end, all but me the healer hench and the assassin had died, I didn't have a sig so I was standing there. I stood there for like 5 minutes and all she did was run back and forth despite the fact that we were standing on their dead bodies, anyway some star things spawn SO SHE STARTS RESSING. It's like, oh look people need healing I'll res this guy! Then the assassin, ffs..... The assassin loves to shadowstep half a screen away, INTO A HUGE MOB THAT YOU HAVEN'T AGRO'D then if you're lucky she dies instantly, if you're not she runs back to you bringing the mob with you and you just get dominated. ALSO if you don't call a target it takes them like 10 seconds to auto attack something. /rant off, the only thing more pathetic than all of this is that they're still better than the average group I'd pick up.

im glad i found a post about this i wanted to ask a question releated to this. at the end of the game, will you have enough skill points by doing all the quests and what not to unlock all your skills, primary and secondary? and hopefully it doesnt involve having to get 3 swords on ALL missions. im also wondering how many skill points i will have left over to capture all elites as well. i just have this feeling that since we have to purchase all our skills (except the ones given at beginning) that we will run out of skill points easy trying to unlock everything...

I think its awful what arenanet have done, i mean the point of a online game is to be able to find ways around the conventional way. if you can afford a runner to droks get 1 and get the armour then play the game. if you can make money and are skilled enough to run then fair play.
it is really bad that they are so fricking narrow minded that they cannot accomidate how the game is played, yes i agree scammers and people that program bots ruin the game that i whole heartidly agree with. they ruined the griffin run at augry rock for all of us but running places and finding your own way is part of guild wars and they hve removed it, i am still very fond of guild wars factions but in some sense think they have taken part of what makes it 'guild wars' out of factions. i mean i just got to cavalon and to the house zu heltzer and have ran everywhere possible myself which i have throughly enjoyed. but at the start i found it slightly frustrating because as much as i enjoy grouping and doing missions i love soloing farming and running and exploreing. which to an extent they have ruined in factions. i am still a happy consumer of guild wars factions but i think some aspects of it were done quite hastilly without thinking about everyone who plays the game. although we will see how the updates change the game i hope them to be fantastic. lol excuse the rant but online games arnt about linear story lines which is what arenanet has made you do with alot of factions. Let me know your oppinions though guys i'm curious to know others oppinions on how factions has been done! I agree with Blitzy aswel about running, i mean for example it would be good if when you have completed a mission with a character the gates that it keeps locked before that should be open for the remaining characters on that account so perhaps you could grind there with your lower level characters... i mean all the missions can be done, but it removes the gates alowing all your secondary characters you want to develop to play the elements of the game that they enjoyed most, it makes sense but implementing something like this could be quite a task. We'll see how it all turns out. Last edited by Draxx; May 03, 2006 at 01:35 PM // 13:35.. |

I have like 80 Skill points still from tyria so i am not worried about running out of them when buying skills... but if you ONLY own factions when you have completed the game and if you dont like PvP you will have trouble getting them.
i would have thought as they have now DESTROYED solo farming so there for it will be hard to gain XP to get the skill points, when i can just go and farm anywhere in tyria, pure factions players may become a little frustrated with Questing for them, and what happens when you run out of quests if you can only do the luxon or kurzick and not both it will be even more difficult... (i have no doubt arenanet will remedy this in some way if it is the case anyway.) Let me know if you think i have got it wrong i appreciate input :P |

hmmm thats a intresting question, i would of thought only in cantha. but you can only farm so much in tyria, some ncie fun places to farm... NEW challenges for farming would be great, something like the griffins and the hydras and predition rock... but because its all been done i was hopeing there would be some new farming

My primary goal in Factions is to unlock ALL skills for every class ASAP so that I have a complete variety of skills to chose from for PvP. How much money will it take, and how much grinding do I need to do after reaching level 20 for each primary class?
I prefer to complete ALL skill quests before I buy any. In Tyria, I would complete all skill quests, and then buy the remaining non-elites for my primary class at perdition rock. This turns out to only be about 15-20 purchased skills I think. In Cantha, It seems I can only quest for about 5-10 primary profession skills from the island. I'm estimating I need to buy about 70-80 skills just to unlock my non-elite skills. Can anyone who has fully unlocked a Canthan primary class verify this please? |

I think Anet's done well with it. Guild wars was never supposed to be about solo farming (why do you think they keep nerfing the reguler spots? Spite?). It was never meant to be about people running. While I understand the droknar's run thing and power levelling (hell, when I was on my 6th character I was fed to the teeth of fart-arsing around at level 9 with crappy armour) the point many people appear to have forgot, is you level up ALOT faster in factions, and you can get the max stat armour as soon as you leave the 'prologue' island and hit the mainland.

Yeah Fair Enough, But weather they meant to or not thats what guild wars became about, as well as WHAT it was created to do... why fight against something that made people enjoy there gaming experience... people that have devoted countless hours to something that they enjoy that is not hurting anyone, when they know people love this ALOT of the gamers i mean then why remove it from the game... in no way does it make it harder or easier i mean ive ran everywhere in the jade sea. it just seems a little upsetting when its something that a awful lot of people do with the games for months on end when they have completed it if they dont like PVP... tell me please what will there be to do with factions when all is completed all the missions your the best char you can be... APART from pvp WITHOUT farming what will there be to do?... perhaps the challenges? thats all i can think of *shrugs*
